Caring for Misty

Light

Medium to bright, but do not expose to direct light. Tolerates lower light conditions.

Water & humidity

Water often in summer, keeping the soil evenly moist but not soggy. Calathea Misto leaves may fold in and the stems droop if left without water for too long. Simply water well and the leaves will bounce right back. Let the soil dry out 2-3cm down in winter. Mist leaves regularly for best results as they love humidity! Humidity is key to success with this plant. Read our tips here

Feeding

Once a month in summer with organic fertiliser.

Re-potting

Every two years in spring. Calatheas don't like to be pot bound, but to have plenty of room. Mix regular potting soil with a good handful of peat moss and pumice stones. This mix ensures good drainage while still retaining moisture. Or use our Hemp Super Soil!

Atrium Top Tip

If the leaf starts curling it means lack of water. Brown edges mean lack of humidity.

Quirky plant fact

Calatheas are part of the Marantacea family, a large family of shrub-like clump forming plants found in the South American jungle. The roots are edible and well-known for their nutritional value, while the large leaves are used by the Amazonian tribes for roofing and shelter.
