Caring for Jasmine

Light

Full sun to partial shade. It will flower more profusely in full sun, but will still grow in light shade. Indoors it needs to be by a brightly lit north or east facing window.

Water & humidity

During flowering don't let the soil dry out too much, keeping it fairly moist. Let it dry out more in winter.

Feeding

Feed the plant in spring with a fruit & flowering fertiliser, then again halfway through summer.

Planting & potting

Plant in well draining soil. Jasmine likes to be slightly root bound so will only need re-potting every other year.

Atrium Top Tip

Flowering jasmine needs to be in a cool spot indoors during winter, otherwise when the weather warms up there won't be a sufficient temperature change to stimulate flowering. Avoid heaters.

Quirky plant fact

The name Jasmine comes from the Persian word Yasmin, which means fragrant shrub. In India the plant is called 'Queen of the night' for its intoxicating fragrance. Syryp made from Jasmine flowers is used as a flavourant in the food industry.
