Caring for Jasmine

Light

Full sun to partial shade. It will flower more profusely in full sun, but will still grow in light shade.

Water & humidity

When established the indigenous jasmine is drought tolerant. Let the top 2-3cm of soil dry out between watering. It will need more water while flowering and during hot summers.

Feeding

Feed the plant in spring with a fruit & flowering fertiliser, then again halfway through summer.

Planting & potting

Plant in well draining soil. Jasmine likes to be slightly root bound so will only need re-potting every other year.

Quirky plant fact

The name Jasmine comes from the Persian word Yasmin, which means fragrant shrub. In India the plant is called 'Queen of the night' for its intoxicating fragrance. Syryp made from Jasmine flowers is used as a falvourant in the food industry.
