If grown indoors Spurflowers enjoy bright light year round. They can also grow outdoors in shade, and are popular as a groundcover.
Let the top 2cm of soil dry out between watering. It doesn't like to dry out too much, but also doesn't want to be constantly moist. Swedish Ivy prefers to stay at a constant room temperature throughout the year, but is not too phased about humidity.
Feed once a month in the growing season.
Re-pot every 2-3 years. Trailing plants don't have big roots systems, so can be pot bound. Only use a well-draining potting mix with added perlite.
Pruning is essential to retain its bushy appearance. Prune in Spring by pinching new growth, and cutting any old woody stems.
In some countries, Swedish Ivy is said to bring good fortune, and is nicknamed the 'money plant'. Interestingly, it does not come from Sweden and is not actually an ivy. It got it's name because it became a popular houseplant in Sweden in the 1980s. It's related to the mint family.
