Caring for Valentina

Light

The more colour on the leaves, the more light Aglaonemas need. Aglaonemas with darker leaves can tolerate shadier spots. Don't expose any Aglaonema to direct sun. It's usually happy by an east facing window.

Water & humidity

Keep the soil slightly moist, letting the top 2 -3cm dry in between waterings. Mist regularly to raise humidity in winter. Keep away from cold draughts, Chinese Evergreens like to stay above 15°C.

Feeding

Once every second month with balanced organic fertiliser. Don't feed in winter.

Re-potting

Aglaonemas are slow growing and only require re-potting every 2 years. A well draining potting mix is suitable. They can be easily divided.

The number one rule to remember is keep them warm and moist.

Quirky plant fact

Aglaonemas are believed to bring luck to the household and have been sold as ornamental plants in Asia for centuries. They were introduced to the West in 1885, when they were first brought to the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.
