This amazing Calathea has the most interesting variegation, resembling a mosaic pattern of dark green on bright leaves. When the leaves catch the light it's almost like the sun streaming through a stain glass window. Yes - it's real, and deserving of a central spot in the home where it can be admired from all angles.

Caring for Bill

Light

Bill can tolerate a bit more light than his siblings, and even enjoys some morning sun by an east facing window.

Water & humidity

Water often (about every 2nd day) in summer, keeping the soil moist but not soggy. Let the soil dry out 2cm down in winter. Calatheas are susceptible to root rot, so don't let water sit in the tray. Mist leaves regularly for best results as they love humidity! Bill is a bit tougher than most Calatheas and can dry out a little more.

Feeding

Once a month in summer with organic fertiliser.

Re-potting

When the stems start crowding the pot it's time to re-pot and divide the plant. Calatheas don't like to be pot bound, but to have plenty of room. Mix 1/3 regular potting soil with 1/3 peat moss and 1/3 pumice stones. This mix ensures good drainage while still retaining moisture. Or use our Hemp Super Soil!

Atrium Top Tip

If the leaf starts curling it means lack of water. Brown edges mean lack of humidity.

Quirky plant fact

Calatheas are known as prayer plants because at night they close their leaves as if in prayer. They originate from deep in the Amazon jungle.
