Another unique specimen from the Dragon Plant family, Draceana Reflexa 'Song of Jamaica' is found naturally in Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique and Indian Ocean islands. Its bright whorls of green and yellow make it a popular houseplant, plus it's easy to grow. Draceanas are some of the world's top air-purifying plants, as recommended by NASA.

About Plant

Caring for Rhaegal

Light

The Song of Jamaica plant needs bright indirect light to thrive. Too little light and the leaves may loose their luminosity, and the plant will start to look spindly.

Water & humidity

Water once a week to every ten days in summer when the soil is dry most of the way down. If leaves turn brown it could be a sign of overwatering. Reduce watering in winter

Feeding

Feed every 1-2 months in summer with a balanced fertiliser. Draceana Reflexa is not a super hungry plant so don't overfeed or it could lead to salt build up in the soil.

Re-potting

Only re-pot once every 1-2 years if necessary to one size up. They like to be root bound. Regular potting soil mixed with some cactus/succulent mix will work best.

Atrium Top Tip

Draceanas are NASA approved Clean Air Plants. Wiping both the upper surfaces and undersides of the leaves with a damp cloth allows the plant to exchange air freely. The bottom leaves will turn yellow and drop, which is completely normal as the plant sheds old leaves to grow new ones.

Quirky plant fact

Some Dragon Plant varieties can grow 100 feet tall in the wild, and are commonly found in dry, hot climates across Africa and South America.
