Water weekly in summer. Reduce watering in winter. If the tips of the foliage start browning it could indicate root rot and too much water. If the foliage turns grey, the soil is too dry. Prefers some humidity, but not too phased.
Three times in summer with 1-2 sachets of Canola Meal. Don't feed in winter.
Re-pot every second year to one pot size up. Try not to disturb the roots, but transport the entire root ball, intact. Make sure the new pot drains well.
The roots of the Rhapis palm cluster at the bottom of the container. Keep this in mind when checking the soil for moisture. The top of the soil may be dry but the bottom will still be wet. You don't want to over water as the roots will rot. If planting in a balcony container remember to add pebbles/stones at the bottom to improve drainage.
The Lady Palm originates from southern China where it grows as tall as 14 feet. It's a slow grower however, and most Lady Palms in the nursery have been there for up to 7 years. Hence why the plant is more expensive than others, but its beauty makes it a keeper!
