A truly magnificent orchid with long-lasting flowers. Enjoy a profusion of blooms that develop on tall graceful canes. It's an easy orchid to keep going and it will flower time and again given the right care.  

Comes in a 12cm grow pot. Decorative planters sold separately. Due to the sensitive nature of the flowers this plant is available for delivery in JHB, PTA only.

Caring for Alicia

Light

As much morning light as possible for optimal flowering. If your orchid is receiving enough light the leaves will be an apple green colour. Too much light = yellow leaves. Too little = dark leaves.

Water & humidity

Most orchids like moist soil while they are actively growing & producing new leaves in summer. As autumn approaches & the plant stops producing new leaves, reduce watering, allowing the soil to dry out a bit during the cooler months. Only increase watering again when new leaf growth appears in Spring. This plant needs high humidity and should be misted regularly with water. Read our humidity tips here.

Feeding

During flowering feed your orchid regularly with a special fertiliser for flowering plants. After blooming, feed with a fertiliser high in Nitrogen. Reduce feeding in winter. 

Re-potting

Re-pot every 2-3 years in spring after flowering. Use a special orchid mix.

Atrium Top Tip

Once the flowers have shrivelled, cut the flowering stem at the base. This encourages the plant to produce new shoots that will flower again. Orchids need lower temperatures in winter to encourage new flowers in Spring. However, don't expose them to freezing temperatures. Cool night temperatures and warm day temperatures are optimal for flowering

Orchids are epiphytes, growing high in the trees or on rocks, clinging on with their aerial roots. These roots feed on morning dew and rain.
