This is hands down one of the most beautiful and elegant Calatheas! The Calathea White Star, also known as Goeppertia 'White Star' dazzles with silver and pink stripes on its magnificent leaves. Each leaf grows on a tall sturdy stem making this a real statement plant that feeds off adoration.

Caring for Majestica

Light

Medium to bright, but do not expose to direct light. Tolerates lower light conditions.

Water & humidity

Water often in summer, keeping the soil moist but not soggy. Let the soil dry out 2cm down in winter. Calatheas are susceptible to root rot, so don't let water sit in the tray. Mist leaves regularly for best results as they love humidity. Humidity is key to success with this plant. Read our tips here.

Feeding

Once every 1-2 months in summer with a fertiliser for leafy plants.

Re-potting

Every 1-2 years in spring. Calatheas don't like to be pot bound, but to have plenty of room. Mix regular potting soil with 1/3 peat moss and a good handful of perlite. This mix ensures good drainage while still retaining moisture. Or use our Hemp Super Soil!

Atrium Top Tip

If the leaf starts curling it means lack of water. Brown edges mean lack of humidity. The chlorine in tap water is also found to cause brown marks on the leaves, so use room temperature filtered water or rain water if possible. Keep you Calathea above 15C in winter. They hate the cold.

Quirky plant fact

Calatheas are known as prayer plants because at night they close their leaves as if in prayer. They originate from deep in the Amazon jungle.
