Bright indirect light. A spot by an east or north facing window, or a couple of metres away from a sunny window is ideal. New growth comes from the crown of the plant, so beware of placing on a very high shelf where the top of the plant won't get enough light.
Although this plant is not technically a succulent, its fleshy leaves indicate that it can store water and prefers not to be overwatered. However, these grow pots are tiny, and will dry out quickly. Smaller plants will need a bit more watering than an established one. Wait for the top of the soil to feel dry before watering.
Feed with a little slow-release fertiliser at half strength 1 - 2 times during summer. Don't feed in winter.
String of Turtles can be easily propagated from the vines. Read our propagation guide here. You can also lay a strand on moist soil and roots will form. Use a well-draining potting soil that is light and airy as the roots are quite delicate. Added peat moss and perlite will be of benefit. You can also use Hemp Super Soil.
Adequate light and don't let the soil stay soggy. Although it is succulent-like, this species originates from the Brazilian rainforests, and enjoys average to high humidity.
The Peperomia family contains over 1000 species of plants. We think Peperomia prostrata is definitely one of the best! The term prostrata comes from the Latin word prosterno, meaning 'prostrate'. It's used to refer to plants with a trailing or creeping growth habit.
