Bubbles is named after - well you guessed it! This plant rightfully deserves its title for its masses of red orange flowers that look like fat leaping goldfish. It's bushy cascading appearance makes it a perfect hanging plant, adding a welcome pop of colour to an indoor jungle. It's a profuse bloomer when well cared for, producing dazzling displays year round. Just give the Goldfish Plant enough light by a north or east facing window and it can grow to around 40cm wide & 30cm tall.

About Plant

Caring for Bubbles

Light

Place Bubbles a few feet from an east or north facing window for maximum light exposure, this encourages a showy splash of blooms. But beware of harsh afternoon light, which could burn the leaves.

Water & humidity

Water frequently in summer while the plant is blooming keeping the soil fairly moist (not soggy), letting just the top layer dry out in between waterings. Reduce watering in winter. Bubbles prefers temperatures above 15°C. Average room humidity will do.

Feeding

Bubbles has an appetite, especially when producing showy flowers. Feed with a Fruit & Flowering fertiliser high in Potassium once every two weeks in summer.

Re-potting

Bubbles likes to be root bound, but you can re-pot every 2-3 years going one pot size up. It's also easy to split your Goldfish plant to make babies.

Atrium Top Tip

Pruning is the secret to success with this plant. You'll see at the end of each stem, soft green growth. Gently pinch this off to encourage fuller, bushier growth. Otherwise the plant can get scraggly.

Quirky plant fact

These plants originate from Brazil and are cousins to the African violet, with waxy fuzzy leaves. As with African violets, try to avoid watering the leaves directly to avoid fungal problems.
