Freddie is one of the tallest Calatheas. With his strikingly patterned leaves propped up on slender stalks he's a most handsome fellow. In the wild, Freddie is commonly found under the rainforest trees of Brazil. His extended family is called Marantaceae (meaning arrow root) because their elongated leaves are designed to catch falling raindrops and funnel them down the stem into the roots.
